I work in a pretty demanding job that requires a fair amount of traveling and intense physical labor. It’s a lot of hard work, but the pay is great so I don’t complain that much. However, I have a new coworker who thinks it’s his responsibility to “manage” the rest of our colleagues and tries to get us to come in on the only day off we get all week.
He recently transferred to our location from a different office across the country, and says these sessions are for “team building” and are “entirely voluntary” but I just know that if I don’t attend he’s going to make my job harder and harder. It sucks because our new management team has decided to throw all their support behind this clown (of course) so I’m afraid that if I don’t go I’ll be a wide open target for leadership to find something wrong with my performance.
All I want to do is relax on my day off and spend time with my family, I also can’t afford to lose this job, but I just don’t see any great value in this silly exercise. Part of me thinks I should just ride it out, because for the most part I love my job, but it’s putting a huge strain on my family life.
