Boss got extremely salty after I specified my working hours

A bit of context: European working for an European company. I work part time in HUMAN RESOURCES for this small startup company. This company pride themselves in giving employees loads of freedom and flexibility with schedule. My fault was that i never specified when I was working so I would get called or messaged at random hours. Like I could be messaged at 8am and 8pm. Soon after, I realised how important it is to set your working time, which I did and basically resulted in my boss getting salty, ordering loads of work, etc.

I really value my personal life and i really dont live to work, but i work to live.

Things I learned:

  • when your company is super “flexible” regrading working hours, make sure to set up boundaries fast.

  • if you are a part timer make sure to set up these boundaries ASAP as you will be working with full time employees.

  • UNRELATED: if you work in HR, it doesnt matter how many times you tell someone not to do something for legal, ethical or any kind of logical reason, they will do it and they wont do it once, they will do if 13 times.
