Gas is $7 where I live. I work part time at $15/hr in a town about 30 miles away.
Yesterday I had to pay my rent that’s been overdue for the past month. It took my entire paycheck that I literally just received and left me with absolutely nothing to get by.
My intent was to carpool with a coworker for the two weeks, like I have been for the past week, until my next paycheck but today, that wasn’t an available option so I had to call in and inform my supervisor I was having difficulties getting to work today.
This is my first real instance of not being able to attend work on a scheduled day. My boss calls me up a little later. Scolding me and asking how I can’t afford gas if I just got paid. Now I’m on suspension “until she makes a decision” on whether or not to keep me on to let me go.
So not only am I broke but I also can’t even go to work to fix that issue. I can carpool so it’s not like I can’t make it work at all but I guess that’s just not good enough.
On the application, it asked, do I have reliable transportation. Yeah, I do. Given the fact that I don’t make a decent wage to afford the, literally, basic necessities of being a productive member of society, I’m being punished.
Awesome.
