I work in a warehouse and in the last couple of weeks me and my co-workers are losing privileges and are being grinded more. They used to be lenient with phone use but they suddenly felt the need to prohibit our use while working altogether.
I work a 6 hour shift and last week they told me I was allowed a 20 minute break. Now they told me I only get 10 minutes. Also, everyone has to text our supervisor before we go on break so he can make sure we’re not taking longer breaks. For those with 30 minute unpaid lunch breaks, they threatened to fire anyone who punches in before 30 minutes, because anything under is automatically paid by the system we use.
One of my bosses accidentally sent me a text, revealing they are talking about how low my quotas are some days when picking. Me and at least one other co-worker were talked to about our numbers again. My boss told me to “capitalize” on the time I have to push and pick 800 cases. And although we get paid more if we do 160 or more an hour, I don’t see the point. I am enriching them far more than I am myself. Plus, I’m depressed. I refuse to grind myself for someone else’s gain.
Do I need to just look elsewhere or do me and my coworkers have options here?
