Boss more worried about coverage than a hostile work environment.

I am a front office manager at a small hotel. I have an employee that has little control of their emotions or ability to not let their emotions dictate their behavior. She is consistently 5-20 minutes late every shift and takes a dozen smoke breaks throughout her shifts. I can deal with these issues for the most part. However, when she is stressed (all the time at a beach hotel front desk) she tends to snap and yell at anybody that is not in agreeing, siding, or defending her. I wrote her up back in September for yelling at the housekeeping manager and berating him in front of other staff. She had done the same to when I first started over a write up I was giving her.

There have been several incidents like this over the three years I’ve worked here. The GM does not document them as she is well liked by guests and we are perpetually short staffed.

Less than a month ago she exploded again at me for telling her shift to limit their breaks and make sure no one was left alone at the front desk for an excessively large arrival list. I documented it and spoke with her about this behavior again.

Last night she began yelling and berating a fellow front desk agent after instructions from the GM was relayed to her.

I’m fed up and am getting paperwork prepared for suspension and termination. As I have documents of this being a repeated issue. My GM is telling me to pump the breaks and we have to give her a chance to correct the problem. I am ready to quit if he does not allow me to unload this volatile individual.
