I work at a small deli/butcher shop and the owner recently left all of his responsibilities to me and a couple other people in order to go expand the business in a new location. It’s been an exciting time for everyone and we all got raises because the owner is no longer taking a salary from our location. His wife has also been coming in for the first times since the pandemic. She has had a super minor role. While the rest of us typically work super hard 8-10 hours 5 days a week, she comes in and works 45 minutes- 2 hours Tuesday-Thursday. As far as I’ve seen she’s done absolutely nothing to actually generate sales. She doesn’t help us cut meat or prepare catering or work the register. Then a few days ago I was allocating my teams cash tips by tallying up everyone’s hours and I saw that she was being paid 30,000 salary. I know that’s not much but for the amount of time she spends at the shop and work she does I equated it to 65/hour… meanwhile the owner has grumbled about “sinking the ship” with our raises. We all make 21-24/hr.
I’ve just been so fucking pissed about this and idk what to do. I feel insulted and like I wanna stop trying. So I got on Reddit.
