Boss purposely started a rumor

I actually wouldn’t even call it a rumor. I’m being purposely vague, but I’ll try my best to get the main parts. My boss asked me about switching some things up at work. I talked to my coworker that I worked closest with because it would affect her too and wanted her thoughts. I was not the only person my boss talked to about this and she talked to me about it at her main desk, which is right where people clocked in and out. At no time during our conversation did she make the claim that what we were talking about was confidential. Which I am assuming happened with the other people she talked to, as well. Another person emailed my boss asking about the switch and my boss replied that she only said something to see how fast gossip would spread. I almost quit. If I didn’t need…
