Boss shames me for leaving with 4 months of notice

Been with my company a while now, but this year I decided I wanted to go to flight school. I'm not happy so it's time for a career change! Thought some of you might enjoy the drama that's ensued from my decision… Rewind to 3 months ago. I tell my boss I'm planning on moving away to flight school this September. I'm hit back with “No, you can't leave that early. Only 3 months?? That's too soon it'll kill the business. It'd be good if you could delay it until Jan or Feb” Sigh. I should've stood my ground because it gets worse, but I ended up not being able to start then anyway. So I delay it until January. Now this week I give notice for January, but I'll be leaving work in early December. That's 4 months of notice before I leave. More than plenty, right? NOPE! Instead…

Rewind to 3 months ago. I tell my boss I'm planning on moving away to flight school this September.

I'm hit back with “No, you can't leave that early. Only 3 months?? That's too soon it'll kill the business. It'd be good if you could delay it until Jan or Feb”

Sigh. I should've stood my ground because it gets worse, but I ended up not being able to start then anyway.

So I delay it until January.

Now this week I give notice for January, but I'll be leaving work in early December.

That's 4 months of notice before I leave. More than plenty, right? NOPE!

Instead of getting respect, I get “No. You need to work over Christmas & New Years. If you don't you'll be leaving us high and dry. The manager and I want our Christmas breaks”

Mind you, I'm not even ASKED if I can work over the holidays or not, it's just demanded. (I'm a subcontractor so I say when I can't work)

I get blasted with “What, so I need to go find a new hire now?? (YES DUH!) What could you possibly need to leave a month early for?” and get laughed at when I try explaining that I'm moving across the country. Generally just trying to make me feel shameful and unreasonable for leaving.

But when I've asked for a pay raise the response is “Well we can just replace you”

Any suggestions?? I feel like this is totally unfair and I'm completely disregarded.

I still have to go back & give an official date, so I'll update this as the saga continues…
