Boss thinks resignation is happening *to* them…

Today, my supervisor told our Executive Director that I was resigning. I knew this had happened, but for the whole day, our ED avoided me. When we were finally face to face, he acted passive aggressively, as though he was insulted by my resignation. What's with bosses acting this way? As though someone quitting is happening to them? I understand taking news personally. At a certain point, that's only natural. But to see an employee's decision to put themselves, their career, or their family first as something they've done to you is ridiculous. Sir, grow up and try to match your maturity to the size of your paycheque.
