I am currently working as a Piggery Attendant and our typical schedule for working is as follows.
Week 1 – Monday – Friday 7AM-4PM (Weekend OFF)
Week 2 – Monday – Friday 7AM-4PM (Weekend OFF)
Week 3 – Monday – Thursday 7AM-4PM (FRIDAY ROSTERED DAY OFF)
Week 4 – Saturday – Friday 7AM-4PM (7 Days Straight)
I have taken two days off Sick Leave (Paid) with Certificates and happened to get a call from my boss asking if I were going to be in tomorrow, I told him that I was going to be in tomorrow and get a follow-up message saying that he is making my RDO this week one of my sick days and that I am required to work Friday this week instead of having my RDO this Friday before my 7 days straight.
So after some thought.. I have messaged my boss back and expressed that I'm not happy having my RDO get shifted to one of my paid sick-leave days and get a message back saying “TALK TO YOU TOMORROW”
Now I am not complaining that I have to work 8 days straight, I am more concerned that what he is trying to accomplish here is pulling the wool over my eyes by making my RDO Wednesday and not having to pay out my Sick-Leave for that day, but also so he doesn't have to pay me over-time rates on Friday for making me work on my RDO.
I am obviously thinking during our conversation tomorrow to express that I don't accept my RDO being placed on one of my sick days and that I am happy to work on Friday, but he has to pay me my overtime rates, however not sure how this is going to affect me at work afterwards.. since my boss is quite a spiteful individual and will make your job living hell for standing up to him.
Or should I just suck it up and do what has been suggested?
What would you do in this situation? Any advice would help, thank you.
