Boss trying to force me into office over holiday

To get us to stop complaining about not having hybrid my work recently caved and gave us Friday and every other Monday WFH. Every other day we need to be in office. I switch off day/night shift with another employee and we rotate on a schedule with a third person for a position that is allowed to be totally WFH. So it's not awful but still, I am a social person and I do not get any fulfillment out of going into the office. My family lives out of state so when my boss was making the new schedule I, during a zoom meeting, requested to WFH if boss put me on the in office shifts so I could still easily visit my family and not have us short staffed. If not possible I said I would take vacation. Well she scheduled me for the in office position. Lately though…

Lately though I noticed the current daytime employee has not been coming into the office. I have no clue why it's allowed but I know he is with family out of state. To my knowledge he has not taken any time off (I've been checking) so I don't think it's bereavement related but I do not want to pry. He's been gone about 3 weeks.

I sent an email at the start of the week asking if we can reconsider my holiday WFH request under the new department WFH policy (since now I will be able to WFH those Friday/Mondays when I'm visiting my family. It makes no sense to inconvenience people TU-THUR just to make a point.

Boss hasn't responded yet though and I think they are waiting for our meeting at the end of the week (just monthly catch-up) to say no to me without putting it in writing.

What are some points I can bring up or what can I do here? Any help is much appreciated.
