Boss wants all the glory because he said yes

I have been urging management for over a decade to make a change in the way we deliver one of the services my division offers. Not only would it dramatically reduce our costs, but for over a decade I have been fielding phone calls from prospective customers begging us to make this change. Finally, when the pandemic hit and our client base collapsed the almost head honcho said yes. He didn't give me any resources, he didn't give me any money. He just said fine. Two years later the services I oversee now account for a full quarter of all of the customers served by my division (prior to the change we were in the single digits). When I've applied for management positions in the past I've been told at various times both that I didn't sell myself enough and I used the word “I” too many times. Aargh. Of course the first year we made the switch and it was clear my idea and efforts were paying off I got passed over for a promotion again in favor of someone two decades younger than me with less education and less experience.

In a meeting recently I said screw it and brought up the fact that in spite of the lack of resources my services were keeping the division in the black at a time when every other division was bleeding money hand over fist. The almost head honcho basically said the glory is all his and my freshly minted supervisor's because the almost head honcho said yes.

WTF?!
