so context: I work at an ice cream shop in Canada. Specifically Ontario, and since I'm still 17 my boss pays me student minimum wage ($14.10/hr). “Regular” minimum wage is currently $15.00/hr, and that's what I've made (or more) at all of my previous five jobs for the past two years.
I took the pay cut at this job in order to have a boss I can stand who isn't emotionally abusive, doesn't fuck around with my money or not just a straight up predator (in case you're wondering why I've had five jobs.)
my boss wants me to get my food handler's certification so I can close and open for her in September, when the two current open/closers (both uni students) won't be able to work when we open midday.
I haven't outright told her no yet, but I just won't be getting the certification because it will be the most amount of responsibilities I've ever had at a job for the least amount of pay I've ever made. Also there is no way my high school hours would work for it anyway, which I don't think she's considered.
She's of the “nobody wants to work anymore” mindset so I don't know how it's going to play when the time comes and no one is able to work the open/close shifts. But y'know, minimum wage = minimum effort.
