Boss wants me to travel for work and is cutting off unemployment.

I work a seasonal job and have been laid off since late November. All of our work is in the local area and we never have been required to travel overnight. My boss has secured some work that is out of town and will require weeks and overnight accommodation. Now, I have no problem going out of town for a day or two or even a week, but I really don’t want to be away from my wife and kids that long. Travel work was never in my job description nor did I have to agree to it as a condition of my employment. I explained that I’m not comfortable being away from my kids and don’t want my wife to be left to take care of a preschooler and 1st grader alone for weeks on end. I feel like I don’t have a leg to stand on as I am able and available for work and he has work available.
