Last week, there was a tragic fatal accident in one of SPC Group's bread factories in Korea (English article):
Yesterday, the company sent a box of sweet buns filled with red bean paste (Korean Article):

The deceased was only 23 years old, and while her job was supposed to be carried out by a pair of workers, her partner was called to come outside the factory to help another team before she was dragged into the sauce mixing machine. It was her coworkers who were instructed to drain the blood-filled the machine and took her body out. They requested to take the day and the following day off after such a traumatic event, but it was not granted and the company resumed production right away, with the said machine wrapped in a white cloth.
And then the company sent a box of bread to her funeral. This is just sick. Who would ever want to taste the food made in the factory where their beloved was killed?
Also, in East Asian cultures, red bean is believed to scare away souls, so it is a taboo to bring or serve any food with red beans at a funeral. So either they didn't even care to check this basic cultural reference, or they sent it intentionally to mock the family.
SPC has a near-complete dominance over the bakery market in Korea, and has a long history of union breaking and abusing their workers with overwork and lack of safety measures.
They also run a bakery chain called “Paris Baguette” in the US, China, Singapore, Vietnam, and France. Please join the Koreans in boycotting their bakeries and products.
*And please, no jokes about the SCP Foundation. SPC is short for 'Samlip (and Shany), Paris croissant, and other Companies'.
