In 1944, FDR proposed a Second Bill of Rights that became essentially nothing, but would've been the centerpiece of his post-war legacy.
In it includes
- The Right to a Useful Job
- The Right to a Living Wage
- The Freedom from unfair competition and monopolies
- The Right to Decent Housing
- The Right to Adequate Healthcare
- The Right to Social Security
- The Right to Education
Unlike the first bill of rights, these rights are affirmative; The first bill of rights restricts what the government can do. This bill of rights is positive obligations that the government must do.
Nothing ever became of this bill of rights. Social Security already existed when he proposed this bill, and FDR died shortly after. It's time we bring back these rights. It's time we push for them all to become Federal Law, either by Constitutional Amendment or by Legislation.
