Broke Down in Tears During Cognitive Assessment

Applied for a job this morning that I finally felt like I had a chance at. And then came the message that I would have to take a cognitive assessment. Fine, I thought. How hard can it be? I started sobbing on the second question. All those stupid if the train is going at 60 miles per hour and this city is 3 hours away type questions. (No scratch paper or calculator allowed!) Applied for a job this morning that I finally felt like I had a chance at. And then came the message that I would have to take a cognitive assessment. Fine, I thought. How hard can it be? I started sobbing on the second question. All those stupid if the train is going at 60 miles per hour and this city is 3 hours away type questions. (No scratch paper or calculator allowed!) Questions about which word is the most appropriate in the sentence. At least ten questions asking which image comes next in the series. I felt like I was back in grade school taking standardized tests again, which led me to an anxiety attack. Of course I failed. It gets worse. This was the practice test. The real test includes showing your workspace on camera to a proctor and possibly downloading a keystroke tracking software (I stopped reading after the line about the camera. Fuck no to that shit!) to doubly ensure you're not cheating on the test.

I looked up reviews of the company and many of them (from CEOS, etc who partner with this agency) brag about being able to hire “the smartest people in the world.” Good at passing a test, sure, but the smartest people in the world is a real stretch.

I'm just furious because there are people who allow themselves to be treated this way, because Crossover for Work does hire people.
