So I work at a branch of grocery stores under Kroger. A worker had to leave because he was sick. At the same time, we had to clean more because of some health inspection stuff. Okay no biggie. Higher up comes up and tells me if I can stay longer. I said no because I have school assignments to work on. This did not sit well with her. She told me I have to send her my school schedule and she was giving me plenty of notice. It’s company policy that I have to stay longer when asked to stay.
I was going to retort “Well my school work won’t do itself even with “plenty of notice” unless I can stop work now and do my homework. I don’t owe you my personal time. I have a busy life outside of this job.” Instead I said yeah sure. I’m not giving her shit. I’m scheduled at a certain time and that’s my availability. I work my time and I’m out. I work a morning job also. My time is crunched and I juggle homework on my breaks, lunches etc.
I have a feeling this policy is bullshit. I only decided not to say anything because I’ve been really exhausted and I would rather conserve my energy for mindfulness and school. I work 60 hours already between both jobs just to live on my own and live comfortably.
Edit: I still didn’t stay longer. Left 15 mins before my scheduled time actually.
