Burnt out at Work

Hi, Let me start by saying that I enjoy my job, and that I was extremely grateful to have been hired by my company. That being said, I’m starting to experience severe burnout and while I enjoy my job I absolutely dread coming into the office. I just wake up already drained and just waiting for 4pm to hit so that I can punch out and leave. I am an administrative assistant, and I help multiple different managers with different tasks. Hi,

Let me start by saying that I enjoy my job, and that I was extremely grateful to have been hired by my company. That being said, I’m starting to experience severe burnout and while I enjoy my job I absolutely dread coming into the office. I just wake up already drained and just waiting for 4pm to hit so that I can punch out and leave.

I am an administrative assistant, and I help multiple different managers with different tasks. When I started, I was told I’d be working from home (this was the beginning of 2022 and offices were limiting who was coming in). Once my manager spoke to her manager, I was then told I’d be coming into the office since the finance assistant was required to come into the office (he also helped with administrative things and management thought it be better for us both to be in the office).

I was fine with coming in, as I just started and plus it wouldn’t be just me handling things in the office alone. However, fast forward to like April-May and the finance assistant talks about the idea us alternating where two days out of the week we work from home so that way we get the option of working remotely (especially on the days it’s very slow).

The finance assistant (Greg), talked to his manager and got two days of working from home (Monday and Friday). He has two kids and loves 15min from the office, but his reasoning was gas prices and events in which he’d have to pick up his kids from school earlier than their usual time. About a month later, I’m told I can work from home on Friday’s, and that I’d only come in on that day if someone needed to be in the office. Before I could even ask, I was told by my manager that they didn’t think it was possible for me to have two days working from home and that I’d only keep Fridays ( even though I planned on working from home the two days the other assistant was scheduled to be in the office).

Fast forward to this week, and we have seniors in college working with us and they have been setup to work in the office on Fridays and now I’m literally the only person in my department that is in the office 5 days a week. Managers and other staff, have days they are remote and here in person.

I’d also like to add that at one of those days I’m not at my own desk until 12, because I also have to watch the front lobby greet guests coming in to speak to lawyers.

I now just feel so drained when coming in, especially knowing that every day of the week I’m in the office while others have days they come in and don’t. Not to mention I don’t drive, so it takes about 2 hours for me to get home since my job is by a busy highway and public transportation is slow. If I’m not getting a ride to work, it takes almost the same amount of time.

I’ve taken a few days (no more then three) here and there, and I’ve had moments of just waking up and saying I’m work from home (on days the other assistant is in) but I know I can’t say I’m working from home on a frequent basis. My friend thinks I’m being taken advantage of, do you think so? Should I say something about being the only one in the office everyday of the week? Or am I just being dramatic?
