“Buy a bike”

About a month ago my office was sitting in on a ‘Townhall Meeting’. For those not in the corporate world, these meetings are usually the higher-ups talking about some new policy or project coming down the pipeline. On this particular meeting we had the chance to ask questions regarding the over all state of the economy and what our company is doing to counteract inflation, cost of living, that sort of thing…. The most upvoted question in the chat was “with rising food and fuel costs what is (Company Name) doing to help their employees offset the high cost of living? If we can WFH can we go back to a hybrid schedule at least to help save on gas?” The VP chuckled to himself and said, “Buy bikes”. I haven’t attended another Townhall meeting since. I’m sure you guys have heard similar verbiage from management in some for or the other. All I heard was “we don’t care about you or your poor people problems, get back to work.”
