I work in the Security Department for Caesars Entertainment in Las Vegas, Nevada. With Caesars, pay for security starts at $18 for just a regular officer. There are three promotable positions in security before becoming a supervisor: Dispatch Officer, EMT, and Field Training Officer (FTO), all of which are explicitly advertised as being a $0.75 raise. Every year, between October and the end of the year, all department supervisors evaluate their employees based on their work throughout the year and the employee is then awarded a pay raise based on said evaluation. As I have only been with the company for 8 months, I am told that these raises aren't significant, nor do they match the current rate of inflation.
That being said.
A couple of weeks ago, my property hired a new EMT officer. He's a cool guy, works really well, doesn't complain, but it recently let out that he was hired on at a MUCH higher rate of pay of $21.50 an hour. That's fantastic for him, I have no hate towards him for that, as I – as well as all my coworkers – agree that the EMT position SHOULD BE paying around that number.
HOWEVER.
Today, I woke up to a mass email sent out not only to all my supervisors, but to also all the security officers at my property as well as my two immediate sister properties demanding for an explanation for the pay discrepancy. In the email, he expressed frustration at the fact a new hire gets paid well above what most officers are currently making, despite a significant amount of officers at my property having been employed for 5 years or more.
The Security Director's response was disappointing; essentially, he reiterated the fact that its tough to retain EMT security so they offered him a MUCH higher starting pay than what was advertised, while also doubling down on the fact that there are no plans to provide raises in base pay for ALL security personnel.
Mind you, this is coming during a time when inflation is at record highs, as well as a time where crime rates are rising, and the threat of experiencing an active shooting is at an all time high.
This is super frustrating 🙁
