Early this week, I had woken up to piles of puppy diarrhea and a bunch of shriveled up tapeworm segments all over my couch and my carpet. I have a 1 year old cat and a 9 week old puppy (both fur babies were napping with me on the couch and I guess I fell asleep). But it was clear to me that both babies had tapeworms.
I immediately booked a vet appt on my day off to get at least my cat dewormed first, but then I decided to call out of work that day because I needed to get quarantine sites ready for them and at least disinfect my downstairs. I knew this would take hours and I wouldn't be able to make it to work on time.
Whenever I called out, my supervisor wasn't too pleased and she told me that I just needed to make an appointment on one of my days off and come to work “like an adult.” I usually don't have a problem with her, but this pissed me off.
My only day off was Friday, the day I booked my appointment for, and I was working 8 hour shifts throughout the entire week. I couldn't just leave the shriveled up, egg infested worms on my furniture and carpet and I couldn't just leave the egg infested piles of diarrhea… And I can't just do a simple clean either, you have to full on deep clean the whole area and wash anything and everything that they've touched. It's not like I called out for my leisure, I was literally scooping up piles of shit soup. I knew they would be fine, but I couldn't wait until the end of the week to disinfect my home.
It would be easy if I had someone at home like a spouse or a partner to watch the fur babies and do all that while I go to work. But, I live alone and I have to make the time to take care of what I need to do. If that means that I need to miss a day of work and pick up another shift later in the week, then that's what I'll do. Not sure how that's being less of an adult… She better keep that same energy whenever her kid comes down really ill and she has to take care of them because no one else can.
