There was recently a mass hiring event at Panda Express. There was a large sign at the door that listed the different positions and starting pay range. It said Servers: $16-$18/hour. So I applied, interviewed, and got offered a job as a server.
When we discussed pay, they said they are starting me at $16. I said given my 20 years of relevant experience and college degree, I am asking for $18. Interviewer says only shift leads start at $18. I said how do I be a shift lead? They said they only hire that position from within. And you have to work as a server for several years to be considered. So I said your sign is misleading then. You don’t start servers at $18, you start them at $16. They just shrugged their shoulders. I got up and left. Clever way to get applicants.
