Just a rant I’ve been holding in for a while, let me know if this isn’t the right sub for this post,
I work Wed-Sun, 10-6. Last Sunday I had to leave early because I was feeling too sick, I clocked out after lunch and left around 2:30PM.
I was sick through my whole weekend, something I updated my boss about, and when I woke up on Wednesday (today) I was still too sick to go in to work.
I immediately panicked, called the nurses line who said it sounded like I have Noro virus and recommended I rest. I texted my boss, shaking and sick, and still offered to go in to the urgent care near me to get a doctors note.
How in the world is this seen as normal and okay? I am still stressed to tears worrying that I’ll lose my job over one and a half days of unpaid sick leave. I can barely rest or try to get better because my anxiety over calling out is causing my stomach to turn. I’ve been written up for calling out at a previous job for not warning them a day in advance, but illnesses like food poisoning, Noro virus, and lots of others come on last minute, how could I predict being sick well enough to call out with 12 hours notice???
I also work on my feet and talking to people face to face, I’d rather not be doing it sick especially since mask mandates were just lifted in my area.
TLDR; the behaviour towards being sick in the workplace is whack ass.
