Can employer ask for proof of illness other than a doctor’s note?

To preface, I live in the U.S. and my partner works at Chick-Fil-A. My partner is currently running a fever and vomiting, he sent a photo of the thermometer with his temperature on it to two of his managers shortly before his shift this morning. His manager said if he is running a fever he should not come in. Now, they are asking for proof of him being sick. They want my partner to provide a doctors note, which is standard, but now they are asking him to send a video of himself taking his temperature. I find this really odd, I guess they don't believe that he's sick. He's had issues with attendance before due to some mental health issues, which he was disciplined for, but this feels like it's crossing a boundary. I'm not sure what to do about it, if anything. Any advice would be great.
