I work for a large catholic hospital system. Note, in the year and a half I’ve been there I’ve used only about 50 hours of PTO total. I don’t take off and I hoard my PTO like a fucking dragon. I have like 107 hours and I’m very very attached to them.
Queue my boyfriend I live with getting covid. I’m vaxxed but like logistics is that I’m gonna get it too. I do the correct thing and tell my manager ( I work in a hospital, of course I should report, right?) I’m negative, bf is positive. They say it’s cool to come to work. Okay fine whatever.
THEN, they tell me if I do get covid, I have to use my PTO?? Which is like fucking crazy, it it not?
So now I’m pretty much like okay so even if I do get covid (more than likely I will) then I’m not using my PTO and then they can deal with me being sick on the job? I feel sorry for having that mindset but also, I don’t want to sacrifice even one single hour of my PTO while I’m sick and can’t enjoy it.
Is there anything I can do to get around this bullshit? Any ideas? Cause I’m fuming right now.
EDIT: Consensus seems that they can indeed do this and I’m pretty much out that time. Thanks to all for the weigh in. I’m going to do what’s right and call in if I test positive, even if it’s bullshit. I care about my patients and innocent people, I’m just angry. I’m just crossing my fingers this vaccine works and I will continue to test negative.
