just realized I shafted myself

After my last job slashed my hours, I started interviewing. I accepted the first interview/offer… oops. My job is a lot harder than what it deserves to be paid for, with much more responsibility than i was led to belive. and guess what? I pulled up the old Indeed app… I'm paid $14 now. Olive garden is hiring starting at $25. (Before tips) With better benefits. I've only been there a month and I'm already thinking of leaving. I feel bad, but I have to do what's best for me! And that's getting paid a shit ton more, even if I'll be on my feet!

I got fired from a high paying job with a toxic culture and I feel pretty great about it

I came into a company a little over a year ago with a mandate to revitalize their e-commerce and and digital marketing completely because the existing marketing department could not do anything digital profitably. I did a great job despite constant resistance from my peers and boss who were all threatened by me and unwilling to accept that there was a new manager on the team. My position was forced on them by top management. There was conflict all the time and everything was an uphill battle. My boss was an emotional basket case who had the whole department completely stressed out to the point of being physically ill. One time I was pushing the department to meet a deadline related to some important changes to our service offering, getting that reflected on our website. My CEO heard I was making a big deal about the website being accurate. The…

I hate that the working class has no time for anything.

I'm always working or doing some chores or errands or something. Any little time I do have I feel like I don't make good use of it because I'm so tired from working. I just feel like life is whipping me around from one obligation to the next on autopilot. Despite all this my financial situation still sucks and my job won't give us raises despite record profits every quarter. What is even the point if there's no time for guiltless hobbies or relaxing? Living in america is horrible I hate this dumb fucking country.

Some of you really need to utilize Worker’s Rights and a lot of the resources legally available to you cause damn

There have been a number of posts where people are complaining (sorry no better word) about no breaks, cut lunches, forced to stay late, harassed by managers, sexual assault, ect. It's astonishing that you people allow these things to happen to you and you don't try to use the resources that are legally at your disposal. I'm victim blaming on this one. Get your shit together.

Serious Question: Why hasn’t the federal government, no matter political party, increase workers rights?

The united states is the one of the only first world counties that do not federally enforce breaks, lunch, sick pay and PTO. Why has no government, democratic or republican not gone in and fixed that? At the minimum, people should be guaranteed sick pay and at least two 10 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch for an 8 hour shift.

This movement has made me a better boss.

I’m a small business owner and always thought I was a decent/good boss based on employee retention and rate of pay. This movement has showed me where I need to improve and I’ve implemented things that have gone a long way for employee moral. Hopefully other business owners/managers are listening.

In memory of my father

My father died this week a year ago. Born in the late 1940s, a generation of high working ethics, he was the AntiWork poster boy. Here are some examples: He would take a yearly sick leave. His best friend was also his doctor, and he would tell him a couple of weeks in advance he's going to be down with the flu. In addition to that, if he actually got sick, he made sure to take a few days off extra after he got better, because “it's a waste to spend a sick leave being sick'. He fell out with his boss about doing work outside his work description. Eventually it came to that he refused working for his boss, and would just bring books to work and read all day in protest. But because he had seniority, and was overqualified and very useful at what he did for others,…

Surgery is no biggie. Get back to work!

My wife is a nurse at a medical facility. She text me halfway through her shift and said she needed to go to the hospital. She had another nurse friend check her out and she believed her gallbladder was at risk of bursting. I told her if it’s that bad then go now. She said they are short handed and had to finish her shift. So, she comes home after work and is in horrible pain. She can’t walk, nauseous, crying, and trying to take a shower before ER. She said she HAD to take a shower first. I didn’t question it. We are in the ER, she is on morphine, and waiting on an ultrasound. Her boss text her asking if she will be in later for her shift. She is by herself in charge of 30+patients. They can’t find a replacement. “Um, they may have to do surgery.…

Why is a set schedule so fucking much to ask for?

What's the point of having someone close every day besides one, where they have to open at 7/8am instead. JUST HAVE PEOPLE WHO CLOSE AND PEOPLE WHO OPEN. They act like we are robots that can just turn off and recharge as long as we have exactly 8/9 hours in-between shifts. It fucks over everyone. Including the company because I'm either gonna call in so I can get some sleep or I'm gonna be tired af and not get anything done. But when you ask about scheduling in job interviews they look at you like you're insane for not wanting to have a schedule that's all over the place??? It baffles me that it works this way and for the most part people just accept it.
