I always wonder why people work at mcdonalds. It feels like the absolute last place id apply. Was it like an out of options situation, or is it not as bad as it seems?

A hypothetical for you, because I've already decided on what I will do. After working in an extremely toxic environment where my union had little to no backbone and barely tried to fight for us (they took a 0% pay increase this year when it is normally cost of living at 2-3% and this year it needed to be 7%), I had to learn what my rights were fast and mostly with google. One of the things I learned was that according to the NLRB (usa), it is unlawful for workplaces to have a policy dictating that discussion of pay scales is a punishable offense. Hey everyone… I’ve worked my a** off since before I was 18, working and going to school. I’m finally going to graduate with my PhD soon and am conflicted about not working. On one hand I want to keep my dumb “career” and in the other I wish I would’ve never even pursued any college because honestly it hasn’t been worth it. All I got was debt that my husband will have to pay if I don’t work. If y’all had the option, would you stop working to stay at home and be a parent? We would not have a ton of $ but we’d be alright…. Don’t know what I’m asking really. Just feel sad to be giving up that part of my life soon- just don’t see it working out continuing to work like this and not have time for family… but I also can’t wait to quit…..…

Tomorrow evening, I am being made to go back into work 6-9pm for a mandatory meeting/class. I go in at 8 so I normally am in bed by 9, so this is effecting my sleeping time. I normally work 8-6 with an hour break 1-2 for lunch. On my next paycheck, I will have around 10 hours of overtime, but they do not pay overtime wages. (I work at a daycare, so I am not sure if we are exempt from that. I do know that there are some exemptions in AR, but I am just not sure exactly what.) This is the second mandatory meeting I have had to come to since I started here, but this is the longest one there has been. We are never paid for them. Should I report this?
