Got COVID during my two weeks notice. Boss still wants me to work.

As the title suggests, I handed in my two weeks when we were creeping up to my 4th year anniversary of work. I had every intention to complete my tasks and even train someone if they hired someone intime before my departure. I already transferred all my files off my device and into the work server. (Yeah, I had to provide my own device) I left because I haven’t seen a single raise, let alone a bonus since I started and the workload grew exponentially with the company but the working conditions somehow worsened. I have a desk job but boss insists the office be beautiful so all my coworkers and I are having ergonomic related issues with our bodies as we sit in their antique woven chairs for 8+ hours a day. They’ve always expressed that they’d never let me go and that I was a huge part of…

We organize the unemployed, those on disability, tenants, and workers of all kind TO END the wage system

Upstate NY's IWW (covering most of NY and VT, and some of bordering areas) exists to end the wage system so that people can have their needs met. We aren't trying to sell you reform We help you get organized for in roughly this order Immediate relief Improved conditions Increased autonomy Complete control An end to the wage system Ol number five is still aspirational but one through three are pretty well established and four has been achieved. We offer the tools and mutual protection needed to end work as we experience it. Feel free to contact us with questions or if interested in organizing. We have a workplace training coming soon, a tenant training coming a bit later, and we use the workplace training as a model for organizing the unemployed with some personalized tweaks. https://upstatenyiww.wordpress.com/contact/

I “Walked Out” of my Job With a Week Left

I work at a small smoke shop chain. I'd been there since August and honestly had been putting in my all, picking up extra hours, helping out at other stores and just genuinely being a really good employee because I seriously needed the bread. In October I got word that we'd be moving locations at the end of February due to someone else taking over the lease of the strip mall the smoke shop is located at. Come February, we still have no inventory packed up and no definite location. My other coworkers and even manager speculate that the shop will probably just close and we'll all get laid off. This seems evident by the fact that we are extremely short-staffed yet we've had no new hires this entire month, nor January despite the amount of applications that have been coming in. I tried asking the ROM if we were…

Worst interview ever.

Im going to a trade school to become an electrical technician. Someone from career services told me there's a security company that needed techs. He told me the job payed 25 dollars an hour. It was little more than an hour drive but $25 dollars right out of school was too good to pass. I showed up on time and no one is there. I wait for about 5 minutes and the secretary shows up and lets me in. I asked her when is the interview going to start and she said oh just wait for the manager in this office. She then said be prepared to wait because he is always late. Red flags are going off in my mind but I already drove an hour to get there and $25 dollars an hour motivated me to stay. ONE HOUR LATER I'm pissed and I asked the secretary hey…

Thank you Antiwork for driving me to get a better job

After lurking on here for a while I finally got fed up with the way my job (IT technician) was treating me both in pay and workload. Came to find out others hired in around the same time as me with similar backgrounds were making $24 off the bat to my $18. And started looking around and applying to other jobs in the area. I met with and demanded a raise to at least $24 to bring me up to the current market rate in my area and was told that I need to 'Consider if the company was the right fit for me'. This was on Tuesday morning on the 15th. Well today I just got a job offer after interviewing yesterday morning for $25 an hour and full benefits. Oh and support scope is a whopping 60 or so devices compared to the ~1600 I was primarily supporting…

Remember, clever capitalists know that your interests are not aligned.

Sometimes, I look at articles from capitalist and conservative sources, just to understand the enemy so to speak. What's interesting is how often they recognize the same facts we do, but from the perspective of evil. Take this article:https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/239034 From the first paragraph, this guy says the same things Marxists do: That the workers and owners have fundamentally different interests. No illusion of benevolent paternalism here: This ghoul knows that the best case scenario for him is often the worse case scenario for the employees. What can we take away from this? It's a helpful reminder that conflict theory is right and that our bosses really don't have good intentions towards us.

“There’s good ones” posts are subtle pro-employer propaganda

They're obscuring the fact that the issues are systemic- not just a matter of good and bad bosses. Kinda like the whole “bad apple” thing when it comes to cops. Even the best companies steal your surplus value and half your waking hours.
