Serious question

I hate getting up and going to work just as much as the next guy, but what does all of this sub do for a living. Genuinely curious after the subs recent publicity debacle.

I don’t know what todo anymore

So I’m at my wits end with my boss. She has said things in the past that aren’t okay such as getting a IUD so I’m not calling in sick once a month or so. She has shared my personal information with my coworkers, my dad got COVID but I live in a separate part of the house so my chances where low to begin with and I stayed home for 48 hours to make sure. She then told me that my co workers were uncomfortable with me being at work but I had asked my coworkers and none said they were uncomfortable. Now the newest thing that she has done is ask me to help pay for a coworkers towing ticket…context for that, me and my coworkers and boss went to a hockey game Saturday, my coworker picked me up on the way and we parked at a gas…

Has anyone put together directory of legal offices (in the US) to handle these “easy” wage discussion cases?

We hear here a lot that companies cannot forbid or fire you for discussing wages and that it would be a simple/quick/automatic lawsuit to sue the company for posting this BS. Often we hear that lawyers will likely take them pro bono to get fees from the company. I'm not so sure Can anyone name any firms/lawyers in any states/municipalities who are actually willing to do this so people have someone to contact when this comes up? Resources like this would be immensely helpful to those who find themselves in this sort of situation. Edit: I'll happily amend the post if I see any supplied in comments. Should I have to wear a tailored 3 piece suit for $13.50 an hour?

I used to wear one, and now they’re saying my current polo is inappropriate when it’s never been an issue before now.

I know there are very few, but what should happen to honest employers who are unable to pay above the currently changing minimum wage standard?

Employers who have tried to create something more for their employees, but are unable to provide for the recent pay rate increases to their employees. Is it better for the employees to be totally without jobs and being able to make money at all than it is for them to make at least some money while helping out?

Temp Agency impacting unemployment claim

So I recently made a post about how I was laid off unceremoniously from a position at the end of January. I immediately submitted my claim to EI (Canada's unemployment program) and was just waiting for the agency to submit my Record of Employment to the government so I could get my claim approved or denied. That was Jan 21st. It's not Feb 16th, and they still have not uploaded my RoE to the government. If the gov't denies my EI claim, I have to apply for welfare through the province which will take even more time. I'm trying to find information on whether or not I can take legal action for this but I'm not finding anything very helpful. Part of me wants to create an invoice for each day past the 20th it's taken to get my RoE at my previous rate, but I know they won't pay…

Crazy application question

One time I was applying to a management position at this store, one of the questions was: What would you do if someone who was about to retire and had been there for 40 years was slowing down their work. I said I would do nothing, you know, show a little bit of compassion and make sure that he is fine. Apparently the right answer was to write him up. Safe to say I didn't get that job.

Wasted interview?

Imma set this up, and I would appreciate any input on if I wasted my time or not. So I recently got a rejection email for a job that I interviewed for yesterday. It was between me and one other person (who already works within the dept I was trying for). And that said person interviewed the same day I got the email that I wasn’t picked. Reflecting back on my interview there were at least 4 red flags (in my opinion) that made me think a decision was already made beforehand. 1. During my hour interview the hiring manager did NOT take any notes from my responses to her questions. 2. At the end of my interview she didn’t ask if I had any questions, she shuffled me off to meet her boss for a few moments. 3. I already know someone who works in this department and this…

How can I tell my boss that I don’t want to be trained to perform a certain responsibility because I believe it’s above my pay

I work retail for a large clothing brand. I’m now at my third location with the company due to COVID-related transfers. At the first two locations, only managers and one cash specialist opened and closed cash, but at this location, it seems that anyone who is cash trained and is scheduled opening/closing shifts is eventually trained to open/close cash. The managers and cash specialist obviously have a higher wage than us part-time sales associates. Based on the previous two locations, I don’t think this is in line with the brand’s policy, but I suppose I could be wrong? I somehow doubt it though. I have a feeling that my manager will want to train me to close cash soon, but I know that at my previous locations that would come with a raise. What’s the best way to tell him that I don’t want to be trained to perform this…

Immigrants to the US: How has your experience living and working here been compared to your home country?

I ask because this topic came up recently with my girlfriend. She's from Central America and moved here as a child with her family. I went to Central America with her a couple times to visit her relatives and we had a great time. Everyone was full of energy and life, despite how hard it is to get by there. Her aunt explained that since things are so tough they spend their free time with family, having fun, partying, singing, dancing, etc. At the time I lived in an American city that was about 50% Central Americans. When I returned home from Central America I noticed a huge difference in the demeanor of Central Americans in the States. They escaped hard lives to find new opportunities in the US, but that energy and life was gone from them. No singing, no dancing, and parties were more about just getting wasted.…
