Im autistic and wanted to use my ADA accomodations to switch the time of my shift. I start working at 11:00-7:30pm generally. I wanted an earlier time starting at 8 or 9 while still maintaining an 8hr shift. After bringing this up to my manager she told me that can happen but they will have a harder time scheduling me. Isnt that violating the accommodation?????? I thought that upon receiving accomodations work hours requested are protected. Im so confused. How do I respond to her?
So I've worked at an insurance company for about 3 years. My job is to call businesses we've insured and gather info that determines how we charge them i.e. I inquire about their security systems, electrical systems, customer volume, etc. One thing I have had to do is file the background checks on employees. Background checks don't just get stored by HR, they get sent to insurance companies too. I've always been morally objected to our company's policy of dropping coverage to businesses that employ felons. Now, our company has decided that they'll raise rates and drop some coverage to clients who don't do enough of a social media background check on employees. They are actively working to push employers into getting social media passwords of workers. They said Reddit and Facebook should take first priority. I wonder why. I'm asking you all this because for the most part we're aware of how bad retail can be in the United States, and I wanted to know how varied the treatment is for you all on a daily basis? Especially in countries that utilize social programs, and governance that has contributed to a higher level of happiness for the citizens in their respective country. I’ve worked with my boss for 8 years. We work on a large installation and there’s plenty of work internally. With all this work you see plenty of people burnt out. The other day we talked about how employees won’t do the bare minimum. I told him that work has broke some of us. He’s a “bust your ass, grind until you die” man, and that’s okay but not for me. I keep my motivation and I keep my “good work ethic” for him and only him. I told him to stop commending me after I started our new operation. I don’t want anyone knowing I care about the quality or passion of my work. I don’t wanna be known as “Let’s get J on the project, he can do this right”. Eight years with this job broke me. I’ll never show another employer who I really am.

I used to work at a major Canadian corporation. I gave my life for that place. Countless hours of unpaid overtime, countless outside work mandatory activities, and countless hours spent having a community presence just to get an acceptable rating just to keep my job. It was worth it. I was getting a pension, good benefits, I planned on being a lifer. Then I hit my head at work. I worked at a eyelash extension company for 8 years. They had the typical “we’re like a family” bs. So my boss will come in and back hand compliment you if she doesn’t like what you’re wearing. She pays everyone minimum wage w/50 cent raises peppered in. No benefits. “We’re too small a company to provide health insurance.” So basically the best fit for her to hire is someone on welfare. I could go on about this company. The stick that broke the camel’s back came after a staff meeting, about how we’re going to have to work really hard to pull the company out of losses from pandemic closures.
