I’m sorry this is long and if this is the wrong place for this please go ahead and delete. It get like it fit here because I thought I was working for a good company but now I’m seeing flaws and not sure what to do. So I work for a tax and consulting company that specializes in independent contractors. I’m in the consulting department. Most days I love my job but days like today make my job frustrating and I honestly sometimes just want to walk out. I answered a queue call today (23rd) and spoke to a client who was just checking to see where his taxes were in the process as he’s trying to get a house and they’ve (his lender) been calling him to find out an ETA on when they’ll be done. So I pull up his account see that it’s been sitting in a…
I feel like I was set up to fail
Growing up I took for granted that I was supposed to move out after high school and go to a 4-year college. I didn’t matter if I didn’t have a clear picture of what I wanted to do with my life, I was just supposed to graduate high school and go to college. Community college? No, you won’t get out of your hometown that way. Work for a bit and then choose? No, you won’t get anywhere in life doing that. Trade schools? Nope. That’s not a way to make a living. So I moved across the state to go to a 4-year state school. I got a lot of grants but I also had to take out loans because the college fund my parents told me to rely on instead of getting a job to set up didn’t actually exist. It’s so easy just to take federal loans. I…
Quit my job, then what?
Some background context: I’ve been working up the courage for the past two months to quit a corporate job I’ve been at for the past 6 years. In the midst of all that, I was talked into going the leave of absence route first to make some extra money, but after meeting with 3 separate doctors, no one is willing to write a dr note for anxiety/depression/stress which is clearly caused by work. Pretty sure my original plan to just quit and have a clean break is the best plan, but curious about what everyone here has done? I know most people probably quit to apply for a company that’s less toxic, but this is the anti work sub, so there’s gotta be someone who’s figured out how to make it work without going back to corporate or toxic work environments.
Let them eat cake!
I’ve had it
The emotional abuse and manipulation I’ve had to deal with from the owners of the company I work for is so insane. They are a small company in the addiction treatment industry. One of the owners claims to be in recovery and even wrote his own version of AA’s 12 steps that he coaches clients on. Well this man does not practice what he preaches and I have multiple screen shots to prove it. He present himself to clients and the media as cool, calm, and collected when in reality he’s a total narcissist and hot head. He has lost his temper on staff members countless times since I’ve worked there. Well this past week was the last time I will be taking his verbal abuse because I’m putting in my two weeks….. again. Yes, again. I tried to quit once before and sent a professional email thanking them for…
