Ive been a machine operator and/or in fabrication work for 10 years. Im relatively knowledgable about most operations involved with any type of large industrial fabrication shop. From hvac/grease duct welding, to structural beam fabrication. I can read prints, and layouts. I can operate and write mazak cnc code. I was promised between .50 to 1.50 pay raise when 60 day evaluation was completed. I was given a .45 cent raise when i had been running 3 shifts worth of parts every shift. So much that i had skipped breaks and missed parts of lunch. When i asked wtf i was told that id need at least a year to get the .50 to 1.50 raise. I cant quit i have three kids and a loving wife. Also a child that i am paying support for and imsurange went up $25 a week which i am also required to keep…

I hate these work places
I hate minimum wage fats food jobs, not only are they a dead end to no where, but there are always issues. I’ve been working fast food for 3 years and no management and today at my McDonald’s job I had a coworker corner me and tell me I said I wanted her fired which is not true, and I walked out and I can’t take it anymore I’m done with these places
(RANT) Working for a new business owner
TLDR: former small business taken over by new business owner who is at least a month late on our store opening yet owns multiple business across US and Europe (allegedly) and is a “recruiter” , making bizarre decisions over employees heads with no communication (hearing more information from random uninvolved community members instead of owner) and confusing clients by using previous owner’s clout. Red flags or no? I have had the same job working in a small business French pastry shop since I was 17 (now 22). I was hired through a friend who worked there. Recently (December 2021) our owner and our one chef made the decision to retire and close the shop. We were very popular in our community, so it was a great loss per say, but it was the right thing for our owner to do for herself and our staff was very supportive and happy…
Taking as much as I can from The Man
This one is a little different but still in the theme of getting what you’re worth. I’ve been in a contract position for a few months (after five years of no one hiring me so I had to start my own consultancy) and now they want to bring me on full-time. Short version: the original salary negotiation (when I didn’t know they were thinking of bringing me) was fine when it was a fee from just another consulting client but is way, WAY lower than where I should be if I were to come on board. Like, 100% below where I would be (that’s why they hire consultants – it’s way cheaper but the tradeoff is they only get part of the consultant’s time). Complication: this is not exactly in my chosen industry but rather a parallel one that works closely with my old one (it’s professional services), and my…
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but it involves working for a bad company so figured I'd put it out there. Bear with me…its a little long. I previously worked for a company that did party performing/mascots. I was with them for a little over a month and from the get go saw serious red flags. The owner hired us on as independent contractors, and I've done that type of work in the last so I didn't forsee there would be any issues. The first flag I noticed was that most of the communicating is done via a Facebook page. It seemed a little unprofessional to me but was told they were trying to find an appropriate app to communicate through. Very rarely do we work with other employees, maybe 1 or 2 at a time. One day an employee didn't show up for…
Young workers give unions new hope
Can’t tell if I’m overreacting
I'm not even sure I'm right to be upset. But recently I had one of the worst days working as a cashier. And surprisingly it had nothing to do with the customers. Though there was one angry one, it wasn't directed at me. No, it's my assistant manager. To start with. A customer wants to return a shredder. And I say no problem. But my assistant manager must have thought she was buying it. Because lately anytime anyone comes up with an electronic that we can sell them on a protection plan. She's either asking someone else to take it or is taking it herself. Because she has no faith in me selling the plan. I'm not that great I guess. Anyways that's not the case. The customer also wants to know about another shredder and do other stores carry it. I look it up and then check our inventory.…
I couldn't afford to finish community college and felt like a failure then. Standing up for myself and quitting a harmful job, not being able to find work immediately put me in debt with three major credit companies, all whom are now taking me to court. My checking account keeps being put further into overdraft. My last job was in a industry not federally regulated and I was discriminately forced to resign. I haven't been able to get consistent work since, and have been trying to start more freelance work thats up my alley but I can't even afford the medication or health services to be able to just focus on work and make money I desperately need to survive. My car registration just came up which is a cherry on top to what I need to pay. I've had to rely on those who choose to help me and…
I understand that all the profit gets sucked up to the share holders instead of people doing the actual work but if I keep up what I'm doing with the market I may not have to have a “real” job. I might be able to free myself from this bullshit. I do not want to be rich I just don't want to spend my life toiling for scraps.
