I believe in every generation contributing their insights into the betterment of society. Somewhere around the 60s and ever after especially with the internet culture and ideas sped up expenantially and mainstream society has not been able to keep up, hence why there's a mismatch between our understanding and the daily output we do in society. The right to work, Henry Ford style factories etc was cutting edge during it's time, and that generation of people were content with having a job title and sitting behind a desk their whole life. Post WW2 and shit a lot of this made sense and was humane considering the alternatives but we have moved on A LOT . Fact is the entire work system in the advent of high speed internet and with a more highly educated middle class seems antiquated, we do not share the same values as our predecessors did because…

I quit my job today
I was hired to pack orders full time at a place near me that sells men’s cosmetics online. The first week went well, I worked about 37 hours and packed orders the whole time. As the weeks went by, orders dipped due to the holiday season being over, and my hours went with that too. I went from working nearly 40 hours a week to working 8-10 hours total a week. The job was in a warehouse on the property of the owner, which originally I thought was so cool. It was amazing to me that this guy was doing so well to afford to build this place, but the temperature in the warehouse was around 32-35°F every day. Most days I could see my own breath while I worked and I could rarely feel my fingers. Any time I made a mistake, he would email me pretty nicely about…
They didn't even mention it during interveiw, I had to ask myself at the end of it. They didn't specify hours, had to ask them myself, they didn't specify breaks, had to ask them myself. They also asked me about hypothetical situation and what I would do, without giving any details. They literally asked me “if customer calls you and has a problem with gift card, what would you do”. I answered I would ask questions to investigate further and then try to solve it accordingly. Wtf are those interviews.
I was talking to one of the janitors in the building that I often work at and he told me he’s only paid $14 an hour (I’m paid more to do less as a student worker), and that he’s working this weekend and isn’t paid OT. I’d love to help him with this because it sounds wrong, but don’t know anything, does anyone have some resources?

A post on this was just removed by mods as I was replying to it, so I decided to post about it myself. If this gets removed as well, oh well… but I think it's applicable to this sub because it speaks to shitty practices in corporate America and the stress they cause, and how the way these corporations are run brings about these situations (bonus targets). Anyhow, someone posted about being passed over for a job because they are a white male. I have no idea if that really happened, no idea if happened as described, no idea if they were told one thing but the real reason is another. But, I do know this happens all the time. It is illegal, at least according to the training I had to to do to become a supervisor at a bank. My bosses have a target to hire a certain…
My boss blames me for her mistake
I work as a bookkeeper for a small property management company. Basically, I keep accurate records of everything the business does. From taxes, to new tenants and property owners, to daily financial records. Two weeks ago, my boss took on 8 new properties. It was agreed that she would enter in the property information since she knew a lot about the properties. I would then enter in the tenant information as well as all of the funds we received from the transfer of the old property management company. I came into work the following Thursday, and she hadn't done any of the work she said she would do and was gone on vacation. We had to have everything entered before the start of the month, and she would be gone until then. So, I had to enter all of the information in which I did accurately. It turns out, these…
It’s Friday, and I’m chilling.
The company I work for brings in around 15k in profit every day. There's only 10 of us who work here and we're all on minimum wage. There's barely any overheads for the business, so that 15k daily income is around 9-10k of pure profit after expenses, wages and taxes. Imagine earning almost 10k a day… And only paying your staff £70 each. The divide is so ridiculous, it's hilarious. He's just bought himself a new sports car, costing in the region of around 150k. And he's been flaunting pictures of it around the office like a mad man. If he thinks I'm putting in any work for the rest of the day, and even anything next week, he must be smoking crack. No time for people like him. The only reason I'm staying is becasue I'm learning about the industry, and I'm currently building a business doing something similar.
My boss was away for the weekend and so the evening before he came back, my co worker cleaned the cafe extra hard so that he hopefully wouldn’t complain of it being dirty. Anyway he comes back and decides the cafe isn’t clean enough and so he throws away both of our travel mugs cause he was annoyed. We use the mugs cause it keeps our coffee warm for longer as when it gets busy we don’t really have time to drink our coffees. I wasn’t even working that day and he still decided to throw away my mug. Also these are mugs we bought with our own money and we have never been told we can’t use them.
(Read that in the same tone as those Personal Injury ads.) If you're currently struggling, please check out this list and find who your local LSC grantee is. LSC, Legal Services Corporation (not actually a corporation I promise), backs legal service non-profits in every state and many major metropolitan areas. If you're low-income, especially if you're now struggling after unfair dismissal, they'll likely help you against wage theft and eviction.
