Antiwork

Shorten up the hours, and pay us more. We wont be lazy, here’s an example:

I'm so tired of this narrative that workers/Millenials/GenZ dont want to work or want to abolish work entirely. It's just unrealistic. Let me give you some context; I (28 nb) have what could be considered a “unreliable career field”– I'm a dancer and self employed, and didnt go to college. I also happen to have very serious neurological issues (FND, CPTSD, vasovagel syncope. All that rhymed. Basically I'm like one of those goats thats falls over when they get scared.) Over the last five years, I've had to juggle increasingly more concerning health issues while trying to keep a roof over my head, stay fed, and get on disability so I can focus on my health. This is something I've been unable to do on my own, but I finally got lucky; I met my amazing partner. My partner (36m) asked me to move in with him long term, to…

I'm so tired of this narrative that workers/Millenials/GenZ dont want to work or want to abolish work entirely. It's just unrealistic. Let me give you some context;

I (28 nb) have what could be considered a “unreliable career field”– I'm a dancer and self employed, and didnt go to college.

My partner (36m) asked me to move in with him long term, to offer me support. He's now paying the majority of our bills and supporting us through his WFH job (cyber security is where it's at folks, I'm telling ya'll). Well, two jobs, cause he's now looking into getting a second, so we can settle down and raise a family. Provided he gets a second job, he'll be making about $100,000 a year, enough to afford a nice house in the burbs, and a tummy tuck for me so I still look snatched after 2-3 kids.

I probably won't have to work through this entire time. I sit at home all day, play video games and watch movies and clean the condo, and let me be clear, I D R E A M of going back to work. I dream of having something to do. I am so utterly bored not having a job, and I feel like I'm not the only one with this sentiment.

Main stream media and the public at large like to say young people are lazy and dont want to work, but we do. Trust me, we do. I cry at least once a week because I miss my job. I like money as much as every brainwashed member of the capitalist american economy; I'd like to be able to earn some. Just .. on my own time, at my own pace. And I'd like for it not to kill me. THAT'S what we want– the ability to be happy and cared for with work we can be proud of. Any boomer politician that says we don't want to work is just pushing a narrative.

tl;dr Capitalists love to say people don't want to work at all, given the opprtunity. Well I have been given the opportunity to do just that, and I'm bored and wanna go back to work. Case closed, mic drop, shorten the work week so people can enjoy their lives AND careers.
