I work in a very niche field. My boss left to take another position elsewhere, and they offered me the boss’s job for an insulting salary. Part of that job I’m not even qualified to do, and I told them as much and that I thought they would have a very difficult time finding anyone qualified and willing to take it at the current salary range. I did tell them if they took the one piece of the job out that I’m not qualified for, and raised the pay to X salary, I’d happily take it. Fast-forward a few months, and they sit me back down and say they’ve been cold-calling people and getting turned down. The people they’re calling keep recommending ME, which is super validating, but I’m not at all inclined to take it unless the one piece that I (literally, seriously) am not qualified for is removed…

About to quit
So I’m going in to quit right now after 6 months of bullying and working overtime for free. I’m extremely nervous, any tips? This guy is the kind of person that twists whatever I say so it seems like he’s in the right or that whatever he says or does doesn’t seem that bad.
On mental health
With $1000 basic income a month, realistically you can work 20 hour week instead of 40 and be fine. If you live in a cheap area, you can go without working at all. This is the dream and end goal of anti work, no? In any other society, especially communism, you have to work to survive. I dont wanna live in a world with suicide nets under iphone factories or be shot for refusing to be a conscript in the army. A basic income every month is vitaly needed to keep the economy running and live in this inflation-ran system. The US only imports and exports very little. If an economic collapse does happen due to hyper inflation, the US will have to become self dependent. As of today, the fiat currency that is not backed by gold or anything IS the gold. All countries trade with the…
Fired for being sick in Central London
I'm a graduate student in London working at an indian food cafe at Imperial college south Kensington. Its pretty easy since its a four hour shift however last week Wednesday, I was feeling strange. I was Dizzying, high temperature ,had strange headaches so I got permission from my supervisor to quickly drink the juice in my bag. I stepped out of the serving area and stood by the service entrance (which was out of customer's line of sight) the only other spacious place I could go to was the kitchen and I was already burning up.Less than 2 minutes later, the manager of the bar (Ember) and her supervisor Mike came in. Mike complained that I had not right to be on break on a four hour shift and walk out without listening to my explanation. I managed to explain my predicament to Ember and she advised that I drank sugar…
Switching careers
I’ve worked in kitchens and the service industry for so long. After covid I really have a hard time ever stepping into a kitchen again. The constant sexual harassment (“jokes”), people not caring about covid, gossip and bs…. I’m over it. I wouldn’t mind going back to a w2 job if I’m learning something new. But damned if I can ever get a single reply to an indeed application that isn’t in the direct field I’ve been in my whole career. It’s very frustrating. I’m not expecting to switch from a baker to an engineer and wouldn’t apply for jobs I didn’t think I could do. For these companies to under pay people, expect them to already be incredibly skilled and passionate, and expect them to stick around for years for less than a living wage? If these jobs want to pay less than a living wage, they should be…
