So I work for a novelty cafe downtown in Chicago. They hire mostly high schoolers and college students. This means they (usually) work around our school schedules and whatnot. I am a college student that lives in an apartment near my campus, so I have to pay rent and utilities and internet and food and things. Firstly, it's irritating because they assume that of you are on break then they can schedule you the whole break, which is not okay. They also block off holidays and days of high traffic to request off. Most of the summer is blocked because of holidays and events downtown. It is February, and I let them know I will be out of town from May 11-June 11. A couple managers said that it sounds like I'm telling rather than requesting, and that some of those days are blocked off. I wasn't requesting, I was…

John Maynard Keynes was an economist in the early 1920s who released a series of books about monetary policy and how governments operate under “fiat currencies”. (The Federal Reserve Note) This is a few paragraphs from one of his books. A Tract on Monetary Reform, chapter two 'Inflation as a Method of Taxation'. pg 43 “Let us suppose that there are in circulation 9,000,000 currency notes, and that they have altogether a value equivalent to $36,000,000 gold dollars. Suppose that the Government prints a further 3,000,000 notes, so that the amount of currency is now 12,000,000 notes; then, in accordance with the above theory, the 12,000,000 notes are still only equivalent to $36,000,000. In the first state of affairs, therefore, each note = $4, and in the second state of affairs each note = $3. Consequently, the 9,000,000 notes originally held by the public are now worth $27,000,000 instead of…
Encouragement.
Hi everyone just wanted to offer some advice or encouragement. I am a massage therapist and esthetician. In my state (MA) there is a shortage of good ones. If either of those jobs appeal to you in any way I would encourage you to look into it and maybe get the education. I’ve been doing this since 2014 and I have gotten to the point where I work at a great spa and also have some freelance clients and clients from an in home massage app. I was actually totally freelance 2018-2021. Post pandemic lockdown has actually seen increased business. I do LOVE what I do and feel blessed so it’s not even really like work most of the time. I can make my own schedule at the spa and with private clients. I make anywhere from $75-$125+ an hour depending on whether it’s spa, app or private. I really…
