Just an inspirational story
Used to work construction (before those greedy pricks at wall street fucked it all up in 2008) One day it was so windy that the crane guy just went. “- Nope! Union rules say its not safe to use the crane in these conditions.” And he just went in to the break room and got some coffee until the wind would settle. Now i was outside bending rebar. When i was done and carrying all these rebars back, there was a sudden gust of wind, on the roof of the house we were building (8 floors) there were some metal plates just lying there. I heard some weird noise, and then a “BANG!” A sheet of metal like 3 feet times 6 feet just landed next to me, it passed right over my head, and buried itselt like 6 inces in to the ground. I am very lucky to be…
This might be better on recruiting hell, but I’m sick of employers pushing menial tasks onto potential employees. I’m not on the clock, why do I have to spend 30minutes every single application for a hiring company to determine whether or not I’m good at scheduling?? Let’s face it, the employer is still going to look at my resume, still going to ask me for a phone interview, and is still going to talk to me whether I do those tests or not. And I’m sure it doesn’t really help HR. And, god, they are such a time waster! Like, what is the point?? “Dance, monkey, dance!” I miss the days where I could turn in a paper resume/application.
Unemployment Fraud Scam
I don’t know if this is a place to put this type of post but I felt compelled to share so that no one else becomes a victim to this. A friend of mine quit a job they had been working on for almost a year to start at another company. The new job fired them and then filed for unemployment using my friend’s information. Friend has been going through hell going through this. Be careful out there.
Casually searching for a new job (rant)
I’ve been with my company for what will be 4 years in November. I realize that I am younger (24f) and I have a lot of things to improve on. I was promoted from a bank teller to a project/ business developer in September of 2020. Last year I worked my damn ass off improving my skills, taking critiques seriously from my boss, and I made so many improvements with projects and the business. My annual review was a couple weeks ago and guess what my raise was? Only 3%. Are you kidding me? I got a pay cut for working my ass off?! I am pissed and at a loss. What they said was oh but you do get bonuses and benefits so it’s okay. Everyone there freaking gets these too! So I’ve been working on my resume and casually searching for jobs. I’m worried though that I do…
We are a unionized team of 70 neurodiagnostic technologists. We have been in union negotiations for nearly 3 months. At this point our contract expires Monday and we will not be renewing once again to continue our talks. We plan to start striking indefinitely. We have stalled over a 1.8% raise over the next 3 years, and no offers on our retirement requests. They are also cutting anniversary raises. Every negotiation in the past decade we have come out with 8-9% raises over 3 years. This year, with inflation at an all time high they are basically asking us to take a pay cut. Mind you – we are the people on the field providing field neurodiagnostic care to ICU patients after: cardiac and respiratory arrests, which with COVID increased exponentially. stroke hemorrhages encephalopathy/encephalitis status epilepticus non-accidental trauma in children and much more On top of that, we provide the…
The problem is major corporations with 1000's of employees can offer such low prices for products and services that smaller businesses can no longer break into the market with out some sort of advantage that allows them to compete with the numbers. Unfortunately that means a lot of small businesses are taking advantage of the labor force to cut costs. In some cases having 50 to 250 employees can still be considered a small business. It is the capitalist end game right, we end up with one resteraunt, one retailer, one of everything, anti monopoly laws do not work because no one can afford to compete. Amazon and Walmart may as well be the same company. You think Jeff Bezos even cares if Walmart took 5% of the market that week. You think the Walmart family even listens to the numbers any mora at all? It is getting worse too.…
