Caught my job lying about hiring.

Yet another example of a company whining about labor shortages but not doing anything about it. My company needs help badly right now, it's to the point where if one person leaves it'll be up to me and the assistant general manager to work 7 days a week and that'll include a few double shifts between us. Needless to say we've been hounding our general manager to get some new hires in. But he's dragging his feet, any time we give him an application someone turns in he hems and haws, they're never exactly what he is looking for, but the candidate he's looking for is a very specific person indeed and they aren't showing up to put in an application.

About a month and half ago he informed us that we were putting sponsored ads for our vacant positions up on a very popular jobs site and that we should get some responses from there. About two weeks ago he informed us that the corporate offices had posted the ads.

Well last weekend I was working the graveyard shift and got a wild hair to see those ads. Lo and behold, not a single ad for any positions at our location could be found. I brought this to the AGM's attentions and we brought it up with the GM who said he was confused and checked with the home office who in turn claimed they “forgot” (essentially.)

There's another similar business next door that had to close their doors two weeks ago due to staffing issues, they had plenty of ads up on the same site we were supposed to be on. They reopened earlier this week with new staff. This issue was brought to the attention of the GM and home office and they still haven't put any ads up for our location. The neighboring company was able to hire enough people to reopen in less than two weeks and we won't even place a single help wanted ad.

This whole “nobody wants to work anymore” is bullshit, we've all known this, but I didn't expect to have such a blatant firsthand experience with it. People want to work, business don't want to hire. They'll work their staff to bloody stumps instead of letting go even a single red penny of profit.
