My coworkers and and I have settled on a hill to die on–chairs at work. I work at a smoke shop and we have one fold out chair and one step ladder that we use to sit. The other day, a customer was in the shop, being helped by my coworker, and my manager scolded me for sitting. Fine, I don't mind standing up whenever someone comes in. However, the only chair was gone the next day.
I honestly want to ask people, what do you think when you enter a smoke shop and see someone sitting? My manager said it's cause corporate isn't happy when they look at the cameras and see us sitting cause there's always stuff to be done. We get no scheduled break throughout a 7 hr shift. I'm not standing on my feet all day for $12 and 1% commission, so I'm back to job hunting but my coworker has a foot disability (on file) and she needs the job. We're all fed up with his micromanaging and the company's archaic values.
Any advice, tips, resources, etc. would be helpful. My manager doesn't realize that he just broke the camel's back, but I'm going to let him know. Just gotta figure out how.
How funny would it be if we staged a “sit in” lolol
