I'm hired as an “assistant engineer” to work in a lab, related to civil engineering test. One day I'm being asked to assist another department temporarily, but after the person in charge resigned, I became the replacement instead. Initially I was told to assist temporarily until they find a replacement, but now I have to commit permanently. This job greatly impair my mental health, I am feeling the anxiety and depression almost every waking hour, as the job requires constant attention to ensure the assignments is going smoothly, even on my off days, sick leaves and public holiday. The job scope from before and after the switch are totally different. Before this, my job scope is to execute lab test and report findings, basically it's a 9-5 job, and i just have to mind my own business. After the switch, the job scope has expanded exponentially, I became a managerial figure and have to absorb more responsibility which I've never consented and also not ready for the challenge. I have to schedule workers daily schedule, liaising with clients, prepare reports, site visit, babysit every needs of the workers, maintain the machinery and tools, keep check on the inventory, reporting progress daily. I've communicated and deliver my request to my employer to transfer back to my original position but they have refused. When I review my contract, it only mentioned about hiring me as an “assistant engineer” so I guess they have every rights to transfer me around as they see fit. I can't leave the company at the moment as i have to pay a hefty price for breaking the contract. Would gladly welcome any advise as long they are not too extreme. Thank you
