chastised for not answering my personal phone when off the clock

As the title states. I am an HOURLY manager of a retail store. They do not give me a phone or anything. This morning I got up early and mowed my lawn because its supposed to be in the hundreds in 2 days. I was still sweating at 75 degrees so then I took a shower and got ready for work. Um, im not obligated to deal with work when I'm not on the clock as an HOURLY employee. Just because YOU would do that, doesn't mean that I have to too. Also, it is MY phone. I have a right to decide WHO I was to communicate with on it considering I PAY THE BILL.

I'm so annoyed. And its not even that I was ignoring the associate. I didn't see the text because I was BUSY.
