Therapeutic Venting

Hi all. Long-time lurker, first-time callerwriter. I've been extremely frustrated with my job since around November of last year. As some background, I was part of a small start-up doing something that nobody else in the world does. We were acquired last year by a larger company who wanted a monopoly on our products to keep us from servicing their competitors. I don't want to get more specific than that, because I'm not using a throwaway for this. Last year, I was promised a salaried supervisory position by the end of the year.

Instead, that position was filled by an internal transfer who knew nothing about our company. He spent the first month and a half in an office on Facebook, with the door shut. I begged his boss to do something about it for weeks to no avail. This totally shattered my rose-colored glasses.

Since then, I've taken a larger notice of what internal jobs list as their job duties. His duties, for example, are almost exclusively performed by me, despite being paid $30k/year less than him. This has been a deal-breaker for me in the past at jobs, and is a deal-breaker now.

Our sick policy is a joke. You get written up if you go to work sick, and if you have any singular COVID symptom, you're forced to stay out of work and use personal sick time, until a team comes up with some arbitrary set of criteria for you to meet to return on site. If you actually end up having COVID, you get company-paid sick time. If you are out of personal sick time, and it doesn't end up being COVID, you're SOL. A large subset of our company is out of sick time now, midway through the year, largely due to these policies and a toxic working environment adversely affecting mental health across the board.

Today, the company payroll is having an “issue”. Nobody has been paid. The uppermost management, CEO, etc. have not said a word. In my personal opinion, those types of people should be begging for forgiveness when an issue like this arises, not sitting comfortably at home making more money in a day than I make in a month.

Anyways, that's my rant for the day. Thanks for hearing me out.
