As titles states. I work in an SEMH* School, so we deal with 11-16 year old that present very challenging behaviours and can be extremely violent.
We've been struggling with recruitment, as a result we've been using agencies to provide staff. We had an experienced person join us that was not only great at the job, but also fantastic with the kids. He also had a cultural background that we've not got in the team and resonated with the students. In a nutshell, he gave us exactly what we needed and was resilient enough to manage the job.
His contract was coming up to expire. No one from SLT spoke to him. One of our middle leaders facilitated a meeting, my colleague asked for Market Rate, they offered the bottom rate. He said he couldn't accept it. They said take it or leave it.
Today would have been his final day and he no showed. We now have panic on how to fill our timetable with enough staff to keep everyone safe. All for a couple grand. This is a School Trust that is spending millions on acquiring new schools, yet no staff to fill them
