Not sure if this fits here but kinda feels like it..
I run a small paintshop in the village I live in in England (cars, bikes ect), a young local who goes to college asked if he could do his work placement at my shop as its local and would save him money. I contacted the college and agreed as they'd refund for any of the products used on his private project for the course. He started in January and had really put in some effort that I'd honestly hire him once he's finished college.
Now to the issue. I had a fairly large job come in and it happened to be a car the boy has a particular liking for and he offered to stay late in his own time and come in on the weekends to help out. He obviously giddy that he's getting to work on his favourite car told class mates and it managed to work its way back to his tutor but I get a call from the college explaining that I shouldn't pay him even though he'll be working outside the agreed hours 9am till 2pm and weekend. They said he's only with you to gain experience not money and it would be unfair to the other students, they also asked if ive been paying him for the 2 days he works with me which i haven't and they might have to review his placement.. I agreed and hung up but FUCK them if he's willing to give up his free time to help he's getting paid, even if its out my own pocket rather than my business account. I'm also considering telling hi to fuck college and just come work for me and get paid to learn its how I did..
