I love my job at work study. It is fun and a good way to work around my busy schedule of a college student.
Yet, I am getting angry. I am getting paid below the minimum wage in my state. My hourly rate is 7.50 an hour. It wouldn't even bother covering gas at away events. This is what I do to earn some sort of earnings that other companies wouldn't understand the schedule.
I feel taken advantage of. I do multiple positions at once and get yelled at if I make mistakes, minor mistakes. What really pissed me off is I had signed up for a position (our specific job varies from game to game, sporting events) and I looked back to confirm the dates today. I noticed what I signed up for, position-wise, was changed without my knowledge. I was put at a position I was not comfortable at and I didn't know how to do. I also got put in for days I didn't sign up for because I will be going home for winter break.
If I didn't look back the sign up sheet, I would've gotten marked up for missing those dates.
I feel taken advantage of. Working too many positions where I get paid under the minimum rate and then being forced on the schedule when I didn't sign up for it.
Maybe this is a rant? But work study is probably worst than any sort of job I have had it the past. But, the school traps us in. They know that our schedules wouldn't work for any sort of regular, four week day jobs, and they take advantage of that.
Shame on colleges.
