My mom has been a nurse for 40+ years and knowing that she always had to balance “vacation time” against “sick time” since they're combined into one bucket was always infuriating. My mom would routinely go to work sick because she so desperately wanted to go on vacation (remember those?) even just away from home for a second to spend quality time with me. The medical system in this country is downright barbaric to nurses. Of all the people to incentivize to come to work sick, medical staff should be at the very bottom of that list.
