Commuting to work

I am a young office manager at a company, and I have proved myself invaluable to my company (I tried to quit and they persuaded me to stay). But I am pretty much late every day (10 – 15 minutes). My boss usually isn't there, and the way I see it i'm putting in my 8 hrs either way. If I arrive at 9:15 I stay til 5:15 or skip my lunch break. The issues are 1) my own issue. I am a night owl, I hate waking up in the mornings and my creativity and productivity peak in the late afternoon to evening, with my best work being at night (but this is a day job) and 2) I did great when working virtually. Rolled out of bed at 8:55 more refreshed. My bosses have fully embraced WFH yet they expect all office staff to come in every single day and do computer tasks that can mainly be done from home. I am in grad school now so I only work part time. My boss gave me no bonus this year even tho I started her company processes with her from the beginning and keep things running. Now that I have made it clear school is my priority after they begged me to stay full time, they don't care to do anything incentivizing. Honestly, I get it. I am low effort compared to how I was before. But I am also the only one able to fix most issues that arise.

I have staff that I manage, and they see that I am late many days, and I never give them a hard time when they are late. life happens, it's hard to wake up, commuting via subway even harder, and I simply DGAF. It takes me 2 buses and 2 subway trains to get there so with my commute there & back its a 10 hour day with pretty low pay. Same with my coworkers. I have advised my boss to let ppl work from home if they want to retain staff – and they dismiss my opinion saying “its an in person role”… I feel these people I work for are highly educated, but have no common sense/empathy for ppl in lower positions who are young & will find better options soon….Therefore they keep losing staff then wondering why even though I have advised them as to what's going wrong. The company is not in an ideal location for anyone who does not have a car. If work was on the subway line, I would be on time. I have never been late with jobs I have had in the past, and those were different as I had clients or guests waiting on me.

We're not saving lives here, and we don't have clients waiting on us. Therefore I don't really care who is late. I have started trying to correct this and be on time but it's really hard with school and another unpaid internship for grad school. I honestly feel they are lucky to have me, and I will quit at any time as I am moving onto better things/more meaningful work.. My internship is right on the subway line as well as where I would like to move to so looking forward to hopefully getting hired at the end.. Is my attitude wrong?
