I’m so frustrated. I felt I jumped through hoops for this job opportunity and got along well with the supervisors and team. After four rounds of interviews, got a call from the hiring manager and was verbally offered the job-not gonna lie I cried because I really needed this. They then asked for five references and I put them in, former supervisors and colleagues… but first question that popped in my head is aren’t references contacted BEFORE offering a job?? I didn’t think twice and focused on the win tbh. After the references were put in around five days later I received an email that I was rejected from the job. I freaked and contacted all my references…and NONE OF THEM WERE CONTACTED????! How and why on earth would you offer me the position and then shut me down without even asking any of my references about how qualified I am for the position but then say my background and experience isn’t enough????? I reached out to the hiring manager but haven’t received a response so far. Just feel like I wasted the past month and a half on this and pretty upset. Is this a common thing employers do? I mean just reject me then straight away if not and if a reference said bad things fine but I asked all of them and none of them were contacted and I doubt they’d ALL lie about that. Just so frustrated
