Ten months ago a group of coworkers at my work were assaulted by one of the participants. The company turned around and acted like it never happened. To this day bringing up that day is like speaking voldemorts name in Harry Potter. Three months later another coworker was assaulted and almost r**** by another participant. This participant was not immediately released from the program and once again the organization refused to even talk about it. Now I am a 27 year old male and am totally capable of taking care of myself. However, even I have been demanding that they provide the company with safety and situational awareness training. Crickets all you get is crickets because they don’t want their donors to think we are in a dangerous environment. The units we enter as maintenance are infested with needles, bugs, and human waste. Three months ago after no action had been taken on the company’s part many of us had planned on walking out. I feel that they caught wind of this because they instantly told us that we would all be getting a $4-$5 raise come July first. To many of us that’s the most we’ve ever made, we stayed. Today while talking with my boss about the raise he mentions “you know about these raises I’m not 100% sure they could be as low as 50cents and as high as $3 it’s really out of my hands” this is crap as my manager is the husband of our ceo. He should know. All this tells me is that the raise they told us we were going to get is not happening. I kind of expected that however my boss also promised that me and one other maintenance guy would be sent off for a special training to get a certificate in our line of work and now I feel that’s not going to happen either. If neither of these things happen I will likely go to the media about their practice of hiding assaults on staff and just how poorly everyone is treated. We’ll see how many of their donors wanna donate when they realize what is truly happening outside those pretty conference rooms.
